IX International Scientific Conference “Microbial Biotechnologies: Fundamental and Applied Aspects”, dedicated to 50^th anniversary of the Institute (Department) of Microbiology, Belarus National Academy of Sciences, was held in Minsk from 7 to 11 September 2015. The event brought together more than 160 scientists, representatives of research-and-development centers, institutes of higher education, ministries, industry and business from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Georgia, Lithuania and other countries, to discuss topical questions and current state in microbiology and biotechnology, share experience in enhancement of efficiency of scientific investigations and transfer of high-tech innovative technologies into the real economy sector.

During two conference days, 8-9 September 2015, 6 plenary lectures, 24 oral reports and 28 poster presentations on actual topics “Microbial synthesis of biologically active compounds. Genetic-engineering of microorganisms. Microbial Collections”, “Biotechnologies for Agriculture”, “Biotechnologies for Medicine and Industry”, “Biotechnologies for Environmental Protection” were presented. Speakers emphasized urgent directions of fundamental and applied biotechnological researches, introduced the experimental findings on evaluation and preservation of microbial biodiversity, microbial biosynthesis of biologically active substances, construction of recombinant microbial strains with required properties, development of highly effective microbial preparations for different sector of national economy.

In the framework of the conference on 8 September 2015 the round-table discussion on results of Intergovernmental target-oriented program of Eurasian Economic Community “Innovative Biotechnologies” (2011-2015 years) and opportunities of Eurasian Biotechnological Platform was held. Round-table talk participants discussed urgent questions concerning provision of essential infrastructure for development of biotechnology, formation and realization of priority innovative and investment biotechnological research projects, aimed on decision of actual social-economic, energy and ecological problems. National trustees R. Vasilov (Russia), E.Kalamiyets (Belarus), K.Mukanov (Kazakhstan) made reports on strategic directions of investigations and formation of research-and-development programs within Eurasian Biotechnological Platform framework.

On 10 September 2015 took place meeting of East Palearctic Regional Section of International Organization for Biological Control heading by Secretary General E.Sadomov. At the meeting advanced scientific achievements in the area of agrobiotechnologies were presented and current trends of ecologization and efficacy enhancement of agricultural production were discussed.

EPRS IOBC meeting resolution (in Russian, PDF, 120 Kb)

Conference participants familiarized themselves with exhibition of local and foreign manufacturers offering a broad array of biotechnological products for agriculture, industry, environmental and health protection, reagents and equipment for microbiological and molecular-genetic research.

Abstracts of plenary lectures, oral reports and poster presentations were issued in conference proceedings and reviewed annual series of collected papers “Microbial biotechnologies: fundamental and applied aspects”.
